Our Fiber

Our Fiber

At Wing & Wool, our fiber tells the story of our farm, our sheep, and the care we put into every stage of their lives. From pasture to skein, our wool is thoughtfully raised, carefully harvested, and hand-processed to preserve its natural character and beauty.

Our Sheep

Our flock grazes freely on Maine pastures, enjoying fresh grass, clean water, and plenty of room to roam. Healthy, happy sheep produce soft, strong wool — and we treat them with the same care and attention we would expect for any member of our family.

Every fleece we harvest reflects pasture-raised wellness, seasonal growth, and natural lanolin, giving it a water-resistant quality and rich texture perfect for cozy projects.

How We Process Our Fiber

01

shearing

Done on the farm each spring, when the sheep are healthy and ready for warmer months.

02

Cleaning & Carding

Each fleece is gently washed and combed to remove impurities while preserving lanolin.

03

spinning

Most of our fleeces are spun right here on the farm, capturing the natural softness, loft, and durability of the fiber.

Fiber made for knitters

I’ve been knitting for over a decade and spinning my own yarn for the past three years, and I’m proud to share that some of my handspun even won Best in Show at the Utah State Fair in 2024! Every skein reflects the time, care, and passion I put into the craft.

What Makes Wing & Wool Fiber Special

We offer a variety of handspun yarns, raw fleeces, and small-batch fiber goods, each with its own character and story. Whether you’re looking for a soft project yarn or a special fleece to spin yourself, you can shop our fiber and bring a little of Wing & Wool into your next creation.

Choosing our fiber means supporting a small, sustainable farm, honoring the care that goes into every fleece, and creating something tangible from the land, animals, and hands that grew it. Each skein is a connection to Maine pastures, our hardworking sheep, and the farm life we love — and part of it even continues the story at local fiber mills, strengthening our community of makers.
